That's a saying we have in my family. I remember I'd see my mother eating something intriguing, and she'd turn away while saying "this is too good for children." And now I do it, usually when fine chocolate or frying is involved. Fried Okra, when made in small quantities, is Too Good for Children. So is dark chocolate and vodka.
Does your household have any sayings about food?

Eat your crusts it will put hair on your chest.
I'm sure that when I was young it had something to do with curly hair( family of all girls ) My husband still throws the top one out at our son who is still leaving crusts uneaten.
He always replies that he is happy enough with his chest thanks.
You asked so here it is.
I did make the grilled mushrooms with tomatoes and although I wasn't thrilled Stephen and Paul liked them well enough. I posted a photo and the recipe on my blog. I have no idea how to make any links other than coming here.

Mom and Dad, I can't remember so much. Mom's mom, she's kind of yer classic Jewish Grandma, so:
"I don't know if I made enough."
"You want ___ ("baby-rolls," ice milk, some awful diet cookies, leftover something-or-other)?"
(said when the table is already groaning with food, and/or you've just eaten a full meal/are going to bed/there is a lull in the conversation).
"Are you sure?"
"Whatsa matter, you don't like it?"
...you get the idea...
oh, a small one, Mom, whenever there's meat or especially poultry:
"Is that done? It looks..pink. Ew. Here, let me put it back. It's RAW. Let me put it--all right! I can't look..."
Ha! I got the hair on your chest speech in reference to crust too.
In hind sight, maybe I should have followed my instinct and left the crust on the plate.
SD, I'm glad you ate the crusts, and the end pieces too.
"you want some coffee?"
"oh, this is awful, let me have yours too," said upon the first bites of an especially delicious dinner.
"you gonna eat that?"
